Infection prevention &

Skin Care

Onset or worsening of lymphedema may be provoked by an infection which makes education in healthy skin condition management and injury avoidance essential for people with or at risk for lymphoedema. The infection may initially appear as a red patch of skin but may rapidly worsen and develop into a septicemia requiring immediate hospitalization and intravenous antibiotic treatment. Essential infection preventative education for patients in a lymphedema treatment program is: immediate identification should any injury occur, timely first aid and early oral infection treatment.
